Between The Buried and Me | Nashville, TN
Last week, Between the Buried and Me performed at Brooklyn Bowl in Nashville, TN while on their Parallax II tour. It's been a little over a decade since the release of Parallax II and metal enthusiasts packed out this highly-regarded Nashville venue to experience it in its entirety. The tour is currently supported by Rivers of Nihil and Thank You Scientist.
Starting out the night was Rivers of Nihil who took the stage and immediately set the atmosphere with “The Silent Life”. From the opening wall of sound into the blazing double kick, Rivers of Nihil got the crowd warmed up and moving. Up next was Thank You Scientist. The New Jersey-based progressive rock band has a full horn section and was similarly met with lots of finger pointing and the crowd screaming the lyrics right back at the band.
Between the Buried and Me took the stage in almost complete darkness with nothing but soft ambient lighting showing their silhouettes. The moody lighting was soon accompanied by the soft opening of “Goodbye to Everything”. The crowd softly sang along as the lights began to increase and illuminate the stage. By the time the band was fully illuminated, the intricate guitarwork of Astral Body began to fill the room and the crowd began to move as the energy increased. As the band continued to play through Parallax II, the lights continued to accentuate and add to the feel of each song. “Lay Your Ghosts to Rest” had one of the heavier breakdowns of their set, with the lights alternating their focus between the band and the crowd with each chant of “weak souls, weak mind.” The crowd stayed engaged through the closing track of their record and set, “Goodbye to Everything (Reprise)”.
The Parallex II tour will conclude in Salem, North Carolina.
