Drew Holcomb and the Neighbors | Milwaukee, WI
On a hot and humid night, Drew Holcomb & The Neighbors took the stage at the BMO Pavilion on the shores of Milwaukee in support of Darius Rucker: Starting Fires Tour. Storms loomed in the distance, but the rainy forecast didn’t tamper the evening.
The Americana band from Nashville featured both keys and an upright bass on a handful of songs. Many songs touched on heartwarming themes of family, home, and friends. If the night had been chilly, the warmth of the lyrics would warm the soul. The group put on a polished show, indicative of their 20 years playing together. A mid-set highlight was their rendition of Tom Petty’s “Running Down a Dream” that featured a electrifying guitar solo that got the crowd out of their seats.
The band closed the show with two feel-good, stomp-your-feet, clap-your-hands, crowd pleasers. “Find Your People”, off the group’s latest album Strangers No More, is the group’s first number one song and could easily become an earworm playing on repeat in your head. The final song of the set, “Family”, had the crowd chanting the lyrics and clapping along, ready for the headliner to take the stage.
Fans of Jason Isbell, Nathaniel Rateliff, or Tom Petty may enjoy catching the group again when they return to Milwaukee in April 2024.
