Faye Webster | Nashville, TN

Taking the stage to a sold out crowd, on the last night of tour, at Brooklyn Bowl in Nashville on Monday night, if Maya Hawke was nervous she didn’t let us know and even gave props to a fan who had a sign saything they drove 12 hours for this show. Maya mostly played songs from her upcoming second album Moss (out September 23rd) and justified it by saying they’re just so fun to perform, not that anyone was complaining.“Thérèse,” of course, got the crowd to participate in singing along. In between songs she would sprinkle little facts about herself including how she was always optimistic about drowning and becoming a mermaid which led right into “Mermaid Bar” (closing out Moss on the album). Other unreleased songs included “Bloomed Into Blue” and “Crazy Kid” which is a duet with her guitarist, Will Graefe, and was written “half on a plane, half on a couch, and half in the studio.” Maya’s last two songs of the night, “Sweet Tooth” and her Florida Georgia Line cover were Nashville-inspired and had everyone singing their little country-pop hearts out.

Faye Webster added an inflatable bust with eyes that lit up to the stage and opened with “Better Distractions.” By the end of the first song she had every single one of us under a spell, not even the photographers moved from their spots in the photo pit while she sang, and if she didn’t have you after “Better Distractions” then the end of the trance-like repetition of “Right Side of My Neck” would have locked you in for the rest of the night. Midway through the night, Faye noticed a fan that held a sign asking her to take a selfie with her phone and she happily obliged. The crowd didn’t mind as she bounced between her albums seamlessly. Towards the end of her set she busted out a cover of Lake Verity from Pokemon Diamond and Pearl. Of course what’s a final night of tour without an encore? Leaving the stage after “Half of Me” Faye was called back by the crowd to end the show — and tour — appropriately with “Kingston.” By the end of the show I couldn’t even believe how much time had passed and how much more energy I had than when I walked through the doors.

Faye and Maya absolutely deserve spots on your radar and your indie pop playlists.
