With two tours already wrapped up in 2022 and more shows on the books, Cincinnati-based band HARBOUR doesn't plan to slow down any time soon. “Swimming In My Head” is the newest single from their upcoming album, due early next year.

Ryan Green, vocalist and guitarist, shared that “Swimming In My Head” got its start while he was on vacation in Florida. With a lyrical cold open, they jump right in, painting the picture of how the song came about in just a few lines.

One can find notes of relatability throughout the song, and with lyrics like “maybe I’ll get it together when I’m old” and “Let your mind sigh / Don’t want it to be broken,” it’d be a challenge to find something unrelatable about this song. These feelings are a universal experience, so having a song like this can help deal with the feelings of waiting for things to get better and hoping it will be soon.

A signature sound for HARBOUR songs is the instrumental breaks around the midway point, somewhat of a slow down before it kicks up again, which is followed up by another sort of break this time, highlighting the vocals. Slick guitar and smashing drums (that almost feel like they match anxious heartbeats) drive home the overall emotion and message of the song. These elements coupled with the vocal talent showcased in the high notes that help carry the song to a close make “Swimming In My Head” a stellar example of just what HARBOUR is known for.

While this song may take a couple listens to actually understand the lyrics, it definitely has the potential to be a staple in music libraries. If the song doesn’t hit right off the bat give it a few more chances, “Swimming In My Head” is lyrically relatable and sonically high energy.
