Hatebreed | Norfolk, VA

Hatebreed celebrated the final date of their 30th anniversary tour on October 27th at the Norva in Norfolk Virginia. Carcass, Harm’s Way, and Crypta joined the band at a big milestone.

Starting the night was the all-female Brazilian foursome, Crypta. They took the stage and instantly mesmerized the crowd. They started their set with “The Aftermath” and “The Other Side of Anger.”  The constant smiles and headbanging from the band got the crowd moving with energy. You could hear powerhouse vocalist Fernanda’s voice echoing throughout the venue. They finished their set with “From the Ashes” and “The Closure.”

Up next was the hardcore band Harm’s Way. The lights went out and the band walked out on stage dressed up as the legends, Hatebreed. The crowd immediately went into a frenzy. The band dove into playing fan favorites “Sadist Guilt” and “Human Carrying Capacity.”  The crowd tempted security with crowd surfing, but broke into a massive pit instead. They brought out vocalist Fernanda from Crypta to help cover Sepultura's “Propaganda,” which got the crowd moving even more. They ended their set with “infestation.” Between the heavy riffs and harsh vocals, the crowd kept up with constant circle pit till the end.

Carcass took the stage next. The screens behind the band lit up and the band took no time playing their classics, like “Buried Alive” and “Kelly's Meat Emporium.” They have a way of curating the perfect set by showcasing intricate melodies and complex guitar riffs. The energy of the band and the crowd set the tone for the last band.

The moment everyone was waiting for, Hatebreed was next. A short tribute video started up of different well-known artists praising Hatebreed for their legacy and success for the last 30 years. The crowd cheered with excitement each time someone popped up on the screen. As the video ended, the lights dimmed and the band took the stage, bursting right into “Empty Promises” and “To the Threshold.” The band’s set was curated around the band's career and was full of fan favorites like “Seven Enemies,” “Tear It Down,” “Doomslayer,” and “Under the Knife.” The crowd was in constant chaos of circle pits and numerous walls of death. The band continued their set with a cover of Slayer's song “Ghosts of War.” The band took a moment to thank everyone and all the bands for celebrating their success over three decades. You could see the smiles from the band gleaming throughout the night. The crowd screamed with excitement as the band announced a Ball of Death. A giant inflatable ball rolled onto the stage and into the crowd as the band finished their set with “I Will Be Heard.”
