Maggie Rogers | Nashville, TN

Ascend Amphitheater in Nashville hosted the second night of Maggie Rogers’ Summer of ‘23 Tour. The excitement of such an anticipated show breaking up the monotonous week more than made up for the humidity and heat.

Soccer Mommy opened the night as the sun went down. Quiet, understated vocals cut through the noise of concert-goers still filing into the venue. Songs like “Circle the Drain”, “Your Dog”, and the finale, “Yellow is the Color of Her Eyes” enraptured the audience from beginning to end. The band played from their heart and each song, regardless of if it was familiar or not, felt like a comfortable embrace. When Soccer Mommy walked off the stage, the crowd was eagerly anticipating the rest of the night.

The only way to describe Maggie Rogers’ stage presence is confident and jubilant. Before a single note of “Anywhere with You” was even sung, she had everyone spellbound. Maggie and the band brought high energy dance moves and vocals throughout the entire set, including the signature body roll for “Say It”. For those not subscribed to her newsletter, before the tour began, Maggie sent out a pre-show starter pack email - including a suggested monochromatic dress code as well as some insider information regarding the setlist each night. A few unreleased songs (possibly from the upcoming third LP) would make their way into the world each night. The setlist is also expected to change order each night with a handful of songs swapped in and out. During “Light On”, everyone in the audience turned on their flashlights on their phone, as if to show they’ll always leave the light on for her. Just before the end of the night, Maggie took a moment to reminisce about how the last time she headlined in Nashville, it was pre-pandemic at The Ryman and before her latest album, Surrender, had been released. The greatly anticipated encore included “Fallingwater”, which was a personal manifestation, a new song entitled “The Kill”.

The Summer of ‘23 Tour runs through mid-August.
