Modest Mouse | Atlanta, GA

Watching the Jarman brothers perform is like going on a rollercoaster that only goes up. The trio walked onstage shy, but vocally thankful for being able to perform with the headliner, Modest Mouse, in Atlanta again. "Running Into You" got the crowd dancing and singing, followed by 2007's hit "I'm a Realist." Song by song, the energy started to increase and contaminated the entire crowd. Even those who did not know of the band before were bobbing their heads by the end of the set. The spoken word of "Be Safe" was definitely the highlight of the set, the crowd stunned by the trio's energy. "Pink Snow" closed their setlist, while Gary Jarman thanked the audience and Modest Mouse for a great tour.

Modest Mouse was ready to play at The Tabernacle in Atlanta 5 months ago when Isaac Brock felt uncomfortable all of a sudden. The frontman took a COVID test and it was, unfortunately, positive. The show was postponed and left many fans desolate, especially those that have been waiting a long time to see the Golden Casket Tour. Five months after the positive, on 9/11/2022, Isaac Brock came onstage saying he was ready, and this time, "with a lot less COVID." With his banjo in hand, the frontman started with "King Rat," and those same fans that were there a few months before couldn't help but scream the entire song.

The Golden Casket Tour has been a very interesting one, because every night the band changes the setlist, so fans never know what is going to happen. The ones present at The Tabernacle were clearly excited when the band played "Education," a song that has been out of the setlist for quite some time. "Parting of the Sensory" and "Bukowski" were also big hits amongst Atlanta fans, and their appreciation could be felt from anywhere in the venue.

After closing the night with "Trailer Trash," a preview from Modest Mouse's upcoming tour (25-year anniversary of The Lonesome Crowded West) the crowd cheered on until the band was back onstage for an incredible encore. From their newest album to their amazing EP "No One's First, and You're Next" the band included songs for every type of fan. Closing out the night with "Spitting Venom," Isaac showed that it was worth waiting for this night. Fans walked out of the venue cheering each other and celebrating the existence (and health!) of Modest Mouse. This performance closes the Golden Casket Tour, after 34 dates and over 4 months traveling the United States.
