Pianos Became the Teeth stopped at Subterranean in Chicago, IL for the final date of the second leg of their tour in support of their phenomenal new album Drift (out now through Epitaph Records - read our review here). Fellow Maryland band Dosser opened every date of the tour, with Boston’s Dreamtigers as additional support on this leg of the run.

Opening with the first three songs from Drift (“Out of Sight”, “Genevieve”, and “The Tricks”), Pianos Became the Teeth’s brand of moody and atmospheric indie rock poured out of the PA and filled Subterranean with a captivatingly heavy stillness. Immediately after the last notes of “The Tricks” were played, the band jumped into a rendition of The Lack Long After album opener “I’ll Be Damned” - one that eschewed the frenzied screaming found on that album for a more melodic vocal, more in line with the band’s output over the course of the last decade.

The band tore through their hour-long set without so much as a word, allowing guitar pedals to feedback and loops to fill the gaps between songs. Six of the ten songs found on Drift were played, as well as a handful of highlights from 2014’s masterpiece Keep You and Wait for Love highlight “Charisma”. Before too long, Pianos Became the Teeth announced that they had two songs left, closing the evening with Keep You’s final cut “Say Nothing”, immediately flowing into fan-favorite “Hiding”.
