Sofi Tukker | Portland, OR

It was a long-awaited six months for fans to see Sofi Tukker after their show was canceled last summer. Friday was the start of a two-night sold out run at Roseland Theater in Portland, Oregon.

Los Angeles DJ, singer, and songwriter Annabel England opened the show layering beats and singing to the crowd, setting the tone that they would be dancing all night. The dance floor and balcony filled with the crowd adorned in bright bold colors, print, sequins and lights. To further warm up the crowd, two individuals from Bob’s Dance Shop danced on the stage. They explained that Bob stood for “be our best” before teaching different moves to the crowd.

The stage was set up in theme with Sofi Tukker’s Wet Tennis tour; a tennis net and scoreboard behind the DJ table and tennis balls on each side of the stage. The scoreboard would keep a tally of “points” for how crazy the crowd was throughout the night. The opponent for the night was Seattle who the Florida-based duo played two nights prior. Both took the stage as a sports announcer introducing Sophie Hawley-Weld then Tucker Halpern before opening with “Energia” from their first studio album Treehouse. The crowd sang along to their Apple commercial-famous “Best Friend”, where the scoreboard turned into a drum pad that Tucker played on with neon sticks for multiple songs. Bob’s Dance Shop came in and out throughout the night, supporting Sofi Tukker with lightly choreographed moves. Eventually Sophie led the crowd to a Simon/Sophie says during the song “Emergency”.

Despite minor mic issues, Sophie did not miss a note of “Fuck They”, with Tucker acting as a mic stand until a replacement was brought on stage. She later headed backstage while Tucker distracted the crowd with some beats, surprising the crowd in the balcony with her electric guitar for a quick solo before heading back to stage. The crowd reached its peak during “Bat Shit”, Tik-Tok viral “Purple Hat”, and an encore of “Drinkee” and a remixed White Lotus theme song.
