The Amity Affliction | Silver Springs, MD

The ten year anniversary tour for The Amity Affliction’s album, Let the Ocean Take Me, made its way to The Fillmore in Silver Spring, MD, on May 27th. Currents, Dying Wish, and Mugshot joined the tour as support.

Mugshot took the stage first with a massive amount of energy. They started their set with “Hate Speech” and “Death has a Shadow.” Mugshot combine metal and hardcore elements flawlessly, and the blend of heavy breakdowns and insane riffs got the crowd moving. They continued their set with a new single, “24 Thorns,” which got the crowd riled up for the rest of the night.

Up next was Dying Wish, who kicked off their set by playing “Symptoms of Survival.” Right from the start, the band had an infectious energy that the crowd soaked in. From the first song, the mosh pit opened up, and crowd surfers started. Vocalist Emma Boster showcased her ability to bounce between screams and clean vocals in “Watch My Promise Die.” There was not one person standing still. Periodically, you could see Emma two-stepping and throwing some insane kicks, to which the crowd roared in excitement. The band continued their set, playing a few fan favorites, namely “Cowards Feed, Cowards Bleed” and “Torn From Your Silhouette.”

Metalcore powerhouse Currents took the stage next, and wasted no time diving straight into their set. As soon as they started playing "Monsters,"  the crowd was ready. Once vocalist Brian got to his clean parts of the song, you could hear everyone in the crowd screaming the vocals with him. The band tore through their set, and the crowd surfers were never-ending. They continued playing “Better Days,"  "Unfamiliar,” and “Remember Me.”

The Amity Affliction took the stage as they played the opening track, "Pittsburgh,"  off their album Let the Ocean Take Me and the crowd went into a frenzy. Vocalist Joel took a moment towards the end of the song so the crowd could chant the last verse. The band continued playing the songs one by one off the album and carried on with continuous energy. Joel constantly moved all over the stage, pointing to the crowd to keep them moving. He would give high-fives to Mist if the crowd surfers had the biggest smile on their faces. During the middle of “My Father’s Son,"  Joel jumped onto the middle of the riser and commanded the crowd to split down the middle to create a bigger mosh pit. In a few seconds, the crowd ran into each other, creating chaos. After playing the album in full, the band walked off the stage as the lights dimmed. You could hear the crowd chanting "AMITY" and wanting more. Moments later, the band walked back on stage to play “Drag the Lake,” “All My Friends Are Dead,” and “Open Letter.” They ended their set playing fan-favorite “Soak Me in Bleach,” where the band had the crowd get low during the last chorus and jump on a three count, and the crowd exploded with energy.
