The Untold "Red Horizons" Single Review

Chicago’s The Untold continue to push their limits and create catchy, yet emotional music with their new song ‘Red Horizons’, the third single off their upcoming two-part album Thunder and Water: Act One.

At first glance, the title of the song ‘Red Horizons’ sounds ominous. While the cadence of ‘Red Horizons’ is reminiscent of what you would expect from a darker pop-punk/alternative song, the ambient tones and technically precise guitar playing adds a complex and progressive overtone to the single.

Lyrically, the single is emotionally hard-hitting and lets us know that despite dealing with loss, there is beauty in letting go. Throughout the song, it becomes apparent that the lyrics are meant to provide comfort to the listener, offering a promise that the Red Horizon is actually a beacon to run towards. The unknowns of life become an assurance that, no matter what, ‘leave ash and dust behind, follow the sun towards red horizons…I know you’ll find your way, it won’t be dark for long.’

The song’s dynamics swell often and evoke an intense, welcomed emotional response to the listener - one that attests to The Untold’s storytelling and songwriting abilities. Although the song is six minutes long (as is to be expected from The Untold), it’s a necessary six minutes, and an enjoyable listening experience at that. The powerful leading vocals, intricately layered harmonies, and solid rhythmic writing make ‘Red Horizons’, quite frankly, an epic song.
