Anthony Green | Nashville, TN
Anthony Green brought an incredible show to Nashville's legendary The End this past Tuesday. The beloved frontman of Circa Survive is currently touring the United States performing solely with his guitar. The intimate venue, with its dimly lit ambiance and intimate setting, provided the perfect backdrop for Green's soul-stirring vocals and raw emotional delivery.
The crowd filled every corner of the venue when Anthony walked onstage, and you could hear the claps from all over the place. There was an anxiety in the air to see how the show would be, especially from Circa Survive fans that are used to seeing a different version of Green onstage. As soon as he greeted the fans and started playing "I Don't Want to Die Tonight" there was an electric energy across the entire venue. We were carried away by his introspective lyrics and his both delicate and raw voice. Being able to experience a quiet room just amazed by the way he sounds was my favorite part of the night. Green even said that the best compliment to him is when a room full of people quietly allows him to sing every word.
Green played covers of what he called "some of his favorite bands" including Deftones' "Diamond Eyes" and Title Fight's "Numb, But I Still Feel It". He also played a few Circa Survive songs, and those definitely elicited sing-alongs and bodies swaying all around. From his solo project, some fan favorites were "You'll Be Fine" and "Vera Lynn". One fan screamed in between songs that he should play "Pleasure of the Feast" and while Green said he was a little hesitant, he gave in and played the song. It was such an amazing rendition of a complex song like that, and fans were emotional while watching it.
Green's interaction with the audience further endeared him to his fans, as he shared personal anecdotes and engaged in lighthearted banter between songs. He even offered a rose to a fan that has been following the tour and his work for a long time. He said "when I feel like I'm tired and want to give up on this, I remember people like you, that are always here supporting me, and that keeps me going". As the night came to an end, Green closed the night with "Bedtime Song" – and the crowd cheered him on.
Anthony Green has another month of tour here in the U.S. before heading to Europe with his other project "L.S. Dunes" – an American supergroup fronted by Green, My Chemical Romance's guitarist Frank Iero, Coheed and Cambria's guitarist Travis Stever, bassist Tim Payne, and drummer Tucker Rule from the band Thursday.
