A Will Away "Soup" Review

A Will Away’s new EP release, Soup, is a standout closing to 2019 music.

This Connecticut band’s new 6 song EP gives a refreshing take to the generic pop-punk sound, with underlying chill tones. It’s steady in its relaxing, upbeat sound, matching the meaningful lyrics of healing portrayed in each track.

The EP starts off strong with Settling, an optimistic sound paired with honest lyrics surrounding the struggles of dealing with mental health. The rest of the album follows suit. Soft Shell follows with a distinctive, grungier, yet light sound, including incredibly noteworthy instrumentals.

The third song off of the EP, Sea Hag Blues, brings a similar feel to their 2017 release of Here Again, while also bringing some Save Face vibes along with it. With Long Exposure coming at track 6, this album leaves you feeling reinvigorated and at peace all at once.

Though this EP is representative of their journey as a band, it is not too reminiscent of their past releases and completely unique in its presence. Soup lends to the butterflies-in-your-chest feeling we know well when we fall in love with a song and yearn for when listening for the first time.
