Dead Poet Society “Fission” Review

Dead Poet Society’s sophomore album, FISSION, can be likened to a meticulously crafted piece of baroque artistry, where every creative element is thoughtfully placed to create a captivating experience. The album, comprised of 13 tracks, exhibits a masterful blend of compelling lyrics, intricate instrumentals, and captivating vocal performances.

"Running In Circles" and "Hurt" delve into the anxieties of making choices and concealing true emotions, offering a profound exploration of the human experience. Meanwhile, "How Could I Love You" navigates the complex aftermath of tumultuous relationships, weaving together a tapestry of sweet and bitter experiences. Taking a turn towards pop, "I Hope You Hate Me" carries a similar message, but with an ominous undertone that complements its lyrical themes.

The emotional depth of "Tipping Point" makes it a standout track, evoking profound feelings that linger in the listener's mind. This ballad resonates with a separate feeling than “LA Queen,” the track that swiftly lifts us up with a powerful and independent force in the subsequent moments. In contrast, "81 Tonnes" reflects on a period marked by vulnerability and instability, pleading for solace and questioning the ability of faith to rescue him from his own inner struggles.

"My Condition" injects a burst of sunshine into the album, both sonically and thematically, with its uplifting message and infectious chorus. The album concludes with "Black and Gold," offering a vibe reminiscent of The Black Keys but with Dead Poet Society's distinctive twist.

FISSION is more than just a collection of songs; it is a narrative that guides listeners through a range of emotions based on their current state of mind. The deliberate effort of the band to connect with the audience on various storylines and facets becomes evident when experiencing the album as a cohesive whole. It serves as a versatile artistic offering, a "take what you need" platter designed for both its creators and fans alike.
