Homesafe | Chicago, IL
On December 1st, Homesafe kicked off their winter run with a hometown show at Cobra Lounge in Chicago, IL accompanied by A Will Away and Overgrow.
The night started off with some sad rock songs from Overgrow. The Midwest band opened up with their most popular song, “The Earth Will Swallow Me Whole” from their 2019 EP The Name We Share. The rest of their set was filled with primarily newer songs off their 2022 album Walls of Mirrors. By halfway through the set, the room had over doubled in attendees. Overgrow does a great job with captivating the crowd with their music, even with the people who have never heard them. Their rich, meaningful performance set the tone for the night and left a tough act to follow.
The room was almost full by the time the second act, four-piece rock band A Will Away, was on. The east coast band will be joining Homesafe for the remainder of the tour. A Will Away played genre-defying songs during their set, and had a lot of energy on stage that poured out of their performance. They kept the energy of the room up for the last act, Homesafe.
While Homesafe was setting up, the room was packing in even more. Their set was filled with a variety of their alternative rock/pop-punk songs old and new. A crowd pleaser was “Vanilla Scented Laser Beams”, a dancey song off their 2018 album One. The band played a lot of songs they do not normally play at this show. The question arises - is the reason they did this because it was a hometown show or because it was the first night of this tour? Regardless of the answer, fans were thrilled to hear tracks like “Relapse” and “Two Bare Hands”.
Overall, the lineup for this show was outstanding. Each band put passion and heart into their performances. The crowd was engaged and steady moving and singing along all night.
