Lucy Dacus | Eugene, OR

On November 13th, Lucy Dacus and Haley Heynderickx visited Eugene’s McDonald Theatre. Excited fans were lined up outside the venue hours before doors even opened, ready to be right next to the barricade to scream along with Dacus’s lyrics.

Haley Heynderickx, an Oregon native, started the night off right. The singer-songwriter had the crowd in a trance with her introspective lyrics and acoustic guitar. From “Untitled God Song” to “Oom Sha La La,” the crowd was loving her enchanting vibe. Heynderickx even played a song requested heavily by the audience called “Mac and Cheese Song,” which she performed originally at an open mic she used to host in Portland. Her acapella version as she tuned her guitar made the crowd fall even more in love with her. It was the perfect start to the night.

After an intermission with a video of Dacus’s childhood videos, the lights went down and it was show time. Right before Dacus went on stage, she invited an Indigenous local to speak about the Kalapuya tribe and do a land acknowledgment. It was such a wonderful moment to start the evening. Once Dacus hit the stage, the crowd erupted in screams and cheering. Fans were getting their signs ready to let her know how much they loved her. In her vintage 60’s dress and with a cup of tea right by her side, Dacus and her band put on an amazing show. She performed songs like “Hot & Heavy” and “Thumbs” from her newest album Home Video. She swayed around the stage with a smile on her face.

Dacus and her band even did a sing-a-long moment where the band all got around the microphone to sing with the crowd. The night ended with an encore of an unreleased song Dacus has been working on. She made the audience promise not to record it, so it would be special for that moment right then and there. Overall, the night was filled with enchanting vocals and positivity. Dacus creates a safe place for her fans, and you could feel it in the air that night.

Kyla Rudd

Howdy! My name is Kyla. I grew up in Florida, but I now live in Eugene, OR. I have been doing photography for almost 8 years, and I am finally getting back into doing music photography after a long hiatus. Music and concerts have always been a big part of my life, and I’ve always dreamed of shooting concerts. My favorite band is COIN, who I have seen live 5 times and have a heart drawn by the lead singer as my first tattoo.
