Militarie Gun | Chicago, IL

Militarie Gun celebrated their largest headlining gig to date on February 23rd when they brought the Life Under The Gun Tour to Bottom Lounge in Chicago, IL alongside Spaced, Spiritual Cramp, and Pool Kids.

Spaced kicked things off for the sold-out crowd, getting everybody moving and warmed up for the rest of the incredible lineup to follow.

Spiritual Cramp was up next, and from the second they started, kids were climbing over each other to be just a little bit closer to the stage and scream the lyrics back in their faces. Between songs, the band shared their love for Chicago, calling it the live music capital of North America because of how great the scene is here. They also made it known that one of their favorite parts of the city is that the weather is a little chilly this time of year, and they all got to wear cool jackets because of it, which got a good laugh from the crowd.

Pool Kids was next, which was a change in the vibe compared to the last two acts, but the crowd kept moving and singing along in awe of the technical skills of the band.

By the time Militarie Gun was about to take the stage, the room was packed all the way to the back wall of the venue, but that didn’t last long as the crowd packed in as close as possible when the opening notes of “Seizure of Assets” kicked in.

The set, consisting of ten of the twelve tracks from Life Under the Gun mixed in with  highlights from past releases, felt like it flew by as the entire room danced, crowd surfed, and sang along. Between songs, their vocalist Ian shared stories from previous shows and tours, including a fun one about getting detained at the border after being asked what their band name was, the border officers then googling the band and seeing they had various song titles about being high and shirts with drug references on them. Needless to say, the band let us know they did not make that show that night but did end up with a good story to share.

They closed the set out with a cover of Blur’s “Song Two” before going into “Very High” closing with “Do It Faster,” which had the entire room screaming along. This show further proved that Militarie Gun is taking over this world of music and doing a damn good job at it too.

Hey, I’m Kaitlyn! I’m a full-time photographer and talent buyer here in Chicago! I started doing photography when I was 8 years old and have been a full-time photographer with a focus on live music, weddings & couples since 2017!

I started CHARM back in 2017 as a way for my friends to cover bigger shows and it’s just grown like a weed since then. After a brief covid-related hiatus, Erin joined me in bringing it back & I couldn’t be more excited to be back with such an incredible team.
