Polaris | Baltimore, MD

The Fatalism tour made its way to a sold-out show at The Soundstage in Baltimore, Maryland, on October 23rd. The tour consists of Polaris, Currents, Varials, and Paledusk supporting Polaris's third album, Fatalism

Hailing from Fukuoka, Japan, Paledusk made their way to the stage. The band took the stage with "Lose Yourself" by Eminem. They opened their set with fan favorites "AREA PD" and "HAPPY TALK.” The band was full of energy, setting the tone for the night. Paledusk knows how to combine elements of EDM, metalcore, industrial, and nu-metal into their songs; and the unique sound they have creates a room full of energy.

Varials took the stage next, starting their set with "The New Damnation" and "Empire of Dirt.” The crowd began picking up the band’s signature chaotic energy with the second song, as crazy mosh pits appeared all over the room. Varial’s vocalist endlessly charged left and right on stage as the crowd never ceased to reflect the band’s crazy energy. They finished their set with fan favorites "Anything to Numb" and "Stigmata."

Up next was Currents - and this band knows how to get the crowd moving. As soon as they took the stage, opening their set with "Living in Tragedy" and "Remember Me," the crowd surfing began. This band knows how to choose the right songs to showcase their ability to transition from heavy breakdowns to beautiful melodic sounds. Currents' energy is non-stop, which the crowd loved.

Finally, the moment everyone was waiting for, Polaris took the stage, opening with "Harbinger.” Security was not ready for the amount of crowd surfing that would happen, as the room was moving immediately after the first few seconds of the set were played. Between constant crowd surfing and mosh pits, no single person was standing still. The band flew through song after song, giving off intense energy. They continued playing fan favorites "Hypermania,” "Lucid," and "Landmine." Polaris took a moment to dedicate their song "Martyr (Waves)” to the passing of their guitarist, Ryan Siew. You could see the emotion from the band as vocalist Jamie spoke. As the song began to play, the crowd got out their cellphones to light up the venue, taking a moment just to sing this song with the band - vocals vibrating throughout the room. The band ended their set with "Masochist" and "Inhumane.” Once the band walked off stage, the crowd immediately demanded an encore. Polaris returned to play "Pray for Rain" and "The Remedy" as their encore.
