Slayyyter "STARFUCKER" Review
Slayyyter enters a new era on her path to pop stardom with her sophomore album STARFUCKER.
The St. Louis-based pop artist presents a production of synth-pop with radiant vocals delivering lyrics that share the reality of entertainment. The twelve tracks on the album bring her style and career forward into a new era.
The party that is STARFUCKER kicks off with bumpy, futuristic beats on “I Love Hollywood” setting the tone of the album as a whole. The second track introduces the main character Miss Belladonna, who loans their point of view for the album. The anthem for the modern femme fatale is reminiscent of late 90s-early 2000s electro-pop. Slayyyter embodies the sleek, sexy maneater, pairing ambitious vocals with a dark beat.
“Dramatic” finds her catchy lyrics and melody teaming up to create a certifiable club hit for a fun and energetic girl’s night out. Slayyyter “wanted to believe in love this time,” but finds that she and her “Rhinestone Heart" were just shiny accessories for the other person. Synth symphonies and iridescent vocals are paired to create just the right element that takes the song to another level. Light, hypnotic vocals and dark sounds are perfectly complimented on the penultimate track, the vulnerable “Tear Me Open”. A progression of the heartbreak experienced earlier on the album, it calls back to hearts being given with care and being returned broken, but alas the glittering starlet keeps shining bright.
The deeper into the tracklist, the better STARFUCKER gets, with some tracks standing apart from or shining brighter than the rest. There is plenty of fun and a good time to be had with this album acting as a soundtrack highlighted by bumpy synth-pop beats and snappy lyrics. Slayyyter succeeds in delving deeper into the persona of a Los Angeles starlet - covering themes of fame, femme fatales, and celebrity obsession in Hollywood.
