Turnover | Nashville, TN

It's been years since Turnover last played in the music city. Pre-pandemic, the Virginia Beach band had made stops at venues like Exit/In and Rocketown. However, in support of their newest record, Myself In The Way, their tour brought them to Brooklyn Bowl on 11/15/2022 with supporting acts Horse Jumper of Love and Yumi Zouma.

Horse Jumper of Love opened the night and set the mood with their fuzzy and distorted guitars - playing fan favorites like “Ugly Brunette” and “Orange Peeler”. The Boston band has made quite a name for themselves in the music city after drawing a full room at Drkmttr during their late winter/spring 2022 tour. I highly recommend this band to anyone who enjoys rock with a shoegaze influence like Gleemer or waveform*.

Up next was Yumi Zouma. The New Zealand pop band provided a nice contrast in the set thus far by playing upbeat music and soft, but punchy guitar riffs. I was not as familiar with this band prior to the show, but following their set, I immediately added them to my playlists. I highly recommend you check out this band if you have not already.

Following Yumi Zouma, it was Turnover’s time to take the stage. The lights dimmed to an almost nonexistent level with the only noticeable light coming from their fuzzy visual backing display. The band opened with “Tears of Change” and the crowd was immediately almost in a trancelike state. The band continued to play songs off their newest release until they took it back to their 2015 release Peripheral Vision by playing “Cutting My Fingers Off”. The energy took off as the guitars and drums broke the crowd from their trancelike state and the crowd sang along with plenty of finger pointing. Throughout the set the band explored eras from other releases, like their 2019 release Altogether and their 2017 release Good Nature. The band closed the night out with “New Scream”.

Hi my name is Oliver and I currently live in Clarksville, TN but there’s a chance I will be moving soon. I first picked up a camera at the end of 2018 and have been loving it ever since.
