Veil of Maya | Nashville, TN

Last Friday, May 17th, Eastside Bowl was shaken by Chicago’s metalcore boys Veil of Maya. The band delivered a concise set that included old gems and amazing new songs. The show follows the recent release of their new album [m]other and left Nashville fans electrified.

When the lights were dimmed, the crowd got closer to the barricade and started clapping in anticipation. Veil’s moody lighting was quickly changed to flashing strobes that accompanied Sam Applebaum’s drums. When Lukas Magyar walked onstage, fans were even more excited for what was to come. Magyar told the crowd that his voice was not doing as well because of a sickness, but the frontman delivered an impressive performance and still showed his amazing range. The crowd moshed to the sound of “Doublespeak”, “Red Fur” (the band’s newest catchy single) and “Outrun”. We could see the excitement of the fans when the band played the old songs, but also a sparkle in their eyes when they listened to brand new songs that were played for the first time.

Despite the short set with 12 songs, Veil closed the night in style with “Mikasa”, and had the crowd asking for more. Lukas apologized again for his sickness, and talked to fans after the set. The Chicago metalcore band is definitely a Nashville favorite and fans will be waiting for more electrifying performances.

Hello! my name is Mariana but everyone knows me by Maris. I have been holding a camera since I was 9 years old and haven’t stopped ever since. I was born and raised in Brazil and moved to Nashville a decade ago. In 2020 I graduated from the University of Tennessee with a BFA in Photography and Media Art and have been working with musicians and bands since then! The adrenaline of photographing live concerts is one of my favorite feelings and I can’t ever get enough of it.
