Zoofunkyou "Borscht" Premiere

Zoofunkyou’s newest single “Borscht” combines the band’s unique genre-blending of blues and funk together with an upbeat, jazzy, Latin vibe. The single marks the band’s first release since 2019.

The song opens up with a well-balanced horn section that bellows into your ear, transporting you into a funky guitar riff, leading listeners into the first verse. The vocals on this song blend a silky elegance with a soulful timbre that sits well amongst the many crests and troughs of “Borscht”. The midpoint of the song calls back and forth between a Latin feel and a classic guitar solo - and while the solo itself adds to the song, the tone of the guitar stands out a little starkly. However, there are nice flairs of percussion and chimes that help balance some of this out

The drums and percussion solo rests itself nicely into the composition of the song - it doesn't exist simply for the sake of existing but asserts itself as the last act of the interlude leading into the final verses. The song wraps up with jazzy horns and a guitar build-up that leaves the listener eagerly awaiting to press play again.

Overall, “Borscht” is an enjoyably smooth listen for old and new fans alike. For being a larger ensemble band, every instrument and section of the song has its place within the composition and embraces listeners into every nook and cranny of the song’s warmth with each listen.
