Brinck Interview
L.A-based singer-songwriter Brinck just returned with a music video for her track “Wannabe”. Taken from her debut EP “Here with me” which dropped in March last year and collected half a million streams, the indie artist invites us to her unique alt-pop world with this new release. We sat down with her to talk about how she got into music, her inspirations, and her plans for 2023.
- Can you start by telling us why "Brinck”?
Brinck is actually my last name shh haha. Growing up my dad told him everyone called him Brinck and I thought that was so sick so I decided to carry it on.
- What was the starting point of your career?
This is a difficult question because I really started doing music and writing at like 7/8 years old. That being said when I was 16 someone discovered me on youtube and I flew out to LA to start making music. I didn’t start releasing my own stuff till 2018 and then finally dropped a whole project this past year.
- What's the story behind your latest track "Wannabe"?
I wrote wannabe about my experience first moving to LA and thinking I’m the shit. I was a goody two shoes straight out of Iowa and I thought I was going to be the next big thing the minute I got to LA. When in reality I hit a party phase, fell flat on my face and had virtually nothing going on. I had a hard time connecting with the other girls and people out here, everyone I met I thought “One day you’re gonna wanna be my friend one day, my girl
- Where do you find inspiration to write songs?
Literally everywhere haha! I think the world is inspiring. Emotions are inspiring. I mean hell sunglasses can be inspiring
- What artists inspire and influence you the most?
I genuinely have such a hard time with questions like these because so many artists inspire me. Right now I think Hope Tala, The Maria’s definitely inspire me. I’ve always been a big Lana Del Rey fan of course but this is such an ever-changing on going list.
- You started 2023 by releasing a new song, what else do you have planned for this year?
I have some shows coming up in LA and then I’m planning on dropping at least 3 more songs this year hehe
- What is one piece of advice you would give to anyone looking to pursue a career in music?
The biggest thing for me was to drop the people pleasing and just do what sounds right to you. Bottom line this is art so if you’re following fame and fortune you’re doing the wrong thing.
