Fidlar "That's Life" Review

FIDLAR is coming in hot with a resurgence after four years to remind us that although life can be grim, it’s a lot more fun when you live waywardly. With That’s Life releasing on March 17th, you can anticipate exactly what you’d expect from the band – but better. Their return maintains the original FIDLAR identity, while still offering an entirely new level of uninhibited expression.

The EP kicks off with the single “Centipede”, which is most reminiscent of previous tracks the group has released in terms of overall sound, and is accompanied by an ace music video.  “On Drugs” lends a ton of instrumental texture, an informal explication of mental health, and ties up with a callback to “Where’s Your Head At” by Basement Jaxx, which fits well within the theme of the song and sound the band carries. As you journey through the record, you’ll hear fragments of everything the group has become over the last nearly decade and a half together.

This collection in particular was compiled as a result of the rowdy, devil-may-care performers navigating their way through the dark space of 2020. Frontman Carper uncovered lyrics during a DMT ceremony in Lake Powell that proclaim the nuances of human connection and being able to embrace cutting loose from reality when necessary. ‘That’s Life’ is a staggering model of former and fresh as a story versus a comparison.
