The Backseat Lovers "Waiting to Spill" Album Review
Waiting to Spill, the newest record from The Backseat Lovers (and Capitol Records debut) comes three years after their self-released album When We Were Friends. The downtime served this band well - the sound present on Waiting to Spill is still distinctly recognizable as The Backseat Lovers.
The Backseat Lovers have struck a perfect balance of rise and fall on Waiting to Spill - one that carries through from start to finish. The first thing that jumps out is the build up on “silhouette”, followed quickly by the banjo. Those who prefer more of a soft folk sound should expect to enjoy “morning in the aves” and “snowbank blues”.
The second single from this release, “Close Your Eyes” has all the right ingredients for a cathartic scream-along in the car. This song is a showstopper, making use of every moment of its just over five minute run time. “Words I Used” is once again a smashing example of the progression of the band’s sound, reminiscent of “Kilby Girl” from their first album.
“Follow the Sound” proves Waiting to Spill is an album to suit any moment - whether it’s a day at the beach, at home, or stuck in the car on a road trip. Each listen further showcases something new to fall in love with.
