Cavetown | Cleveland, OH

On August 1st, Cavetown’s Bittersweet Daze Tour stopped at Jacobs Pavilion in Cleveland, Ohio. Joining Cavetown for the Cleveland show was Australian-born Grent Perez, Ricky Montgomery, and mxmtoon. A dollar from each ticket was given to the This Is Home Project, founded by Cavetown’s own Robin Skinner in support of LGBTQ+ youth in need. Beginning the night was Grent Perez, whose soft and whimsical vibes had everyone feeling the love he poured out for the crowd. Perez’s “Cherry Wine” filled the open-air amphitheater with good sounds and happy people. Next up on the bill was Ricky Montgomery. Montgomery was quite the crowd favorite in Cleveland, with the entire amphitheater cheering as soon as he made his entrance on stage. Montgomery’s stage presence had everyone jumping from set start to finish. “This December”, “Line Without a Hook”, and most notably “Mr. Loverman” had the crowd going wild and the voices of thousands screaming back. Mxmtoon hit the stage with “fever dream” first, having everyone up on their feet and feeling the good aura mxmtoon was giving out. The soft yet powerful vocals had everyone smiling and enjoying the moment for mxmtoon’s set. At exactly 8:45 PM, the intro to Cavetown’s “worm food” started playing and the lights went dark. As the crowd cheered, Robin made his way while softly singing the lyrics. Not even ten minutes into the show, tears were seen throughout the amphitheater, showing the power of the clearly emotional lyrics that Skinner conveyed. Throughout the show, fans were seen hugging, crying, laughing, and smiling. Around halfway through the set, Cavetown invited Ricky Montgomery and mxmtoon on stage to sing their joint single “Nobody Loves Me”, which had the crowd roaring with happiness. To finish the night, hits “Boys Will Be Bugs” and “Devil Town” were shared with the crowd. Cavetown held one of the most freeing, accepting, and feel-good concerts and one can hope the BIttersweet Daze Tour will be back soon.

Born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, I have always had a passion for live music photography. Since moving to Atlanta after high school to pursue college softball, it opened up a door into the live underground music scene. Since then, I have worked with a number of underground bands and have had opportunities to shoot festivals and bigger artists. I look forward to working with the amazing team that CHARMMusic Magazine has to offer, and can’t wait to share what I see through my lens.
