Tessa Violet | Nashville, TN

Tessa Violet’s My God! Tour completed its first week in Nashville on Thursday. Fans of all ages, backgrounds, and fashion styles piled into The Basement East to see what extravagant outfit Tessa would bestow upon them that evening.

As a heads up, Tessa Violet’s set has lots of strobing and flashing lights, though each instance of it feels purposeful for the feeling of the song. The opening track, “YES MOM” amped up the excitement once the lights went out and the band, sans Tessa, walked on stage. Decked out in an outfit that felt very reminiscent of Madonna’s iconic cone corset from the ‘90s topped with an iridescent cape, Tessa Violet became the superhero of pop music for the night. Throughout the set she spoke with the audience, asking people what they were grateful for and what they wanted, whether it was just to have a good night or to make the world a happier place. At one point, Tessa made sure to mention that her songs are more than songs, they’re spells that could do a variety of things - make one happy, sad, or even horny. Despite seamlessly going from songs about confidence to songs about regret like “Play With Fire”, where the artist runs the risk of tiring out the crowd with the ever-changing energy, the vibes only continued to build up, not only from the crowd, but from Tessa and the band as well. Most of the songs in the set were from the newest album MY GOD! but she made sure to sneak in the occasional hit from her previous album, Bad Ideas, as well. Tessa Violet is one of those special acts that knows her audience and knows how to put on a performance to make that audience happy without compromising on aesthetics and sound.

The My God! Tour runs through the first week of September with Francis Forever as a supporting act.
