Pinegrove | Nashville, TN
Let me just start by saying each of these artists need to be on your alt/indie playlists and radars this year.
Walking on to begin the tour’s second night at Brooklyn Bowl in Nashville, Lucie Murphy (AKA the mind behind Poise) caught everyone’s attention, and set the tone for the night, with her red sequin dress that she saves only for the most special occasions, like a sold out show. Poise and her band brought soft indie melodies to the crowd with her 2021 debut album Vestiges.
Sandwiched between Poise and Pinegrove was Nashville-native Sinai Vessel, playing their first tour since the pandemic hit and shut everything down in 2020. Continuing the energy from Poise, Sinai Vessel performed songs off of Ground Aswim and got the crowd even more excited for the headliner.
Throughout their set in between songs, Pinegrove would take time to discuss all of the words that had 3 consecutive double letters: Tennessee, Tallahassee, bookkeeper, chattahoochee, and assessee were the more memorable finalists (Mississippi didn’t count), offering free merch to whoever could come up with an actual word without googling it. They also discussed being trapped in Brooklyn Bowl for 48 hours by their “Draconian” management and how they felt the cabin fever set in. For an hour they played songs from every album including their newest release 11:11 and fan-favorite songs such as “Aphasia” and my personal favorite “Angelina”. As the hour closed in, Pinegrove finished their set and walked offstage only to turn around and come back to the crowd cheering for an encore where they surprised us with not one, but two songs as a little treat.
