The Devil Wears Prada | Chicago, IL

On Saturday September 23rd, the Metalcore Dropouts tour featuring The Devil Wears Prada and Fit For A King came through Radius in Chicago. This co-headline tour is refreshing in that there are no album releases or anniversaries, and it’s refreshing to be at a show that feels like bands hitting the road and genuinely having fun playing songs that they just want to play.

Kicking the night off was LANDMVRKS, playing a set mostly made up of songs from their newest album Lost in the Waves. The band opened with “Lost in a Wave”, and progressed through deeper cuts, including “Blistering” from their previous record Fantasy.

Up next was the always electric Counterparts, who opened up their set with Nothing left to Love intro track “Love Me”. Counterparts’ setlist covered almost all of their albums, closing with “The Disconnect”.

Getting better with every tour, metalcore staples The Devil Wears Prada proved that they are in their prime and have plans of stopping as they walked out on stage to the intro of “Exhibition”. Playing a lengthy 13 song set, the crowd exploded as “Danger: Wildman” kicked in. During a minor technical difficulty, Mike Hranica and Jeremy DePoyster, having lived in Chicago for a number of years, let the crowd know how great it felt to be back at home. Throughout their performance, the band touched on the Zombie EP and the latest record Color Decay. They finished off their set with Plagues highlight “Hey John, What's Your Name Again?”.

Fit for a King closed out the evening, taking the stage by storm with “Annihilation”, proving that they came to party. There was no shortage of energy from the band, as vocalist Ryan Kirby flexed his vocal chops, closing out “Pissed Off” with an impressively long 20-second scream. The set touched on most of their albums - from Slave to Nothing to the latest release The Hell We Create. “Shattered Glass” was one of the high points of the set, as Fit for a King split the room in two for a wall of death. They finished off the night by joking about the ridiculousness of encores, then playing “God of Fire”.
