The Offspring | Tinley Park, IL
On August 26th, 24,000 people came out to Credit Union 1 Amphitheater in Tinley Park, Illinois to see Sum 41 and The Offspring with support from Simple Plan on the Let the Bad Times Roll tour.
Simple Plan kicked off the night running onto the stage to the Star Wars theme song, fans cheering as “I’d Do Anything” kicked in and the party got started. As their set continued they played a medley of covers inluding “All Star”, “Sk8er Boi”, and “Mr. Brightside”. The band brought out Scooby Doo during “What’s New Scooby Doo” with a t-shirt cannon shooting merch into the crowd. They closed out with “Perfect”.
Up next was Sum 41, opening up their set with “Introduction to Destruction” and “Motivation”. As the circle pit was going, “We’re All to Blame” and “In Too Deep” were played. As most fans already know, Sum 41 has announced that they are going to retire and that they will be going on one last tour in 2024, so this night was likely the second to last time Chicago will get to spend with them.
As the crew set up the stage for The Offspring, cameras were running around to show people dancing and playing The Offspring trivia on the screens. Then “10… 9… 8… 7… 6…5… 4… 3… 2… 1…” The Offspring took the stage with an intro that faded into “Come Out and Play”. During the hour and a half long set, they played everything from “Hammerhead” and “Pretty Fly for a White Guy” to a medley of cover songs, and even rolled out a grand piano to play “Gone Away”. They closed out the evening with an encore consisting of “You’re Gonna Go Far Kid” and “Self Esteem”.
This was a night as stated by Pierre of Simple Plan that brought back feelings of simpler times being at Warped Tour 2005 which made for a great time!
